The idea of a painter painting the painter popped into my head one day and seemed like an interesting, story telling, theme to focus on for a series of watercolors. So “Jim Sketches Jim” grew into the present Gallery of Clone Paintings seen on this site and is growing still as people see the paintings at my gallery and on the internet. Now called the “Me myself and I” Clone series, each painting revolves around the life style of the principle character. Sometimes there are a minimum of two images of the principal and so far, at most, there have been seven images of the main character. The overall goal in this process other than my interest in doing something different and have  fun at the same time, is many faceted. I want the main character to enjoy the portrait procedure and feel a part of his/her life has, more than with the conventional portrait style, been put in to a sharper focus. I learned, after getting viewer responses , that there is usually a double take, chuckle response, when they realize all the people in the painting are the same person. I didn’t plan on the entertainment value but I’m happy it’s there and so are my commission clients.

“Me Myself and Clones”

Framing Note: The virtual frame shown above does not exist and is presented here only to give an idea of how the painting would look framed and matted. We frame all our paintings here at the gallery and can provide that same service to you. But since frame choice is a very personal matter we recommend the customer have it done locally. However we ship all paintings with a recommended archival, three inch white mat around the painting, as suggested above, with archival foam core backing (a $25 value) that can fit into a custom frame of your choice. The Height and Width dimensions shown above are of the “art size“ seen through the mat.
